     Elias was born at Hardyston, Sussex County, New Jersey, on 25 June 1831.1 He was the son of Michael Rorick Sutton and Elizabeth Forrester. He married Mary A. T. Harris, daughter of William Harris and Elizabeth Tregoning, on 5 September 1865 at Michigan.1 He died on 25 April 1901 at Michigan.1
     Elias Fairchild Sutton appeared on the census of 7 August 1850 in the household of Michael Rorick Sutton at Hardyston Township, Sussex County, New Jersey.2 He was a merchant in 1860.3 He appeared on the census of 25 July 1860 at Ward 4, Port Huron, Saint Clair County, Michigan; Resides with W H B Dowling.4 He appeared on the census of 3 August 1860 in the household of Michael Rorick Sutton at Bruce Township, Macomb County, Michigan.5 He began military service in May 1862 at Michigan Mustered into the service of the US Army as 1st Lieutenant for term of 3 months. On May 6th was placed in command of the Michigan-Stanton Guard and stationed at Fort Mackinac.1 He ended military service on 25 September 1862 at Detroit, Michigan; Mustered out of the service.1 He appeared on the census of 25 June 1870 at Huron Township, Houghton County, Michigan.6 He was works in store in 1880.7 He appeared on the census of 4 June 1880 at Schoolcraft Township, Houghton County, Michigan.8 He appeared on the census of 18 June 1900 at Lake Linden, Schoolcraft Township, Houghton County, Michigan. Mary noted having 2 children both living.9
