HIGH BRIDGE -- Franklin Beatty Sutton died Jan. 18, 2000, at Hunterdon Medical Center in Flemington. He was 83.
Born in Washington, he was a son of John Henry Sutton and Mina Slater Sutton. He lived in High Bridge for 40 years and previously in Clinton Township.
He was a 1935 graduate of Washington High School.
He was a supervisor for Taylor-Wharton in High Bridge for 34 years. After Taylor-Wharton closed, he worked for United Telephone in Clinton for 13 years.
He was a charter and life member of the High Bridge Emergency Squad; charter member of the High Bridge Golf Club; member of L.H. Taylor, Liberty and Annandale fire departments; member of the Masonic Lodge in High Bridge; member of Harkers Hollow Golf Club; member of the High Bridge Lions Club; president of the South Branch Rod and Gun Club; member of the Warren County Beagle Club; member and Chancellor Commander of the Knights of Pythias; charter member of the Clinton Elks Lodge; business manager of the High Bridge Baseball Club, Tri-County League; first aid instructor and scoutmaster.
Four brother and three sisters all died earlier.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Violet Bolmer Sutton; a daughter, Nancy Freiss of Lebanon Township; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 22 at the Martin Funeral Home in Clinton. Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery in Cokesbury. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society, 84 Park Avenue, Flemington 08822.
