Obituary
Death called another veteran last Thursday (November 30, 1905) when Watson Sutton died at the home of his brother Lewis V. Sutton at 233 E. Washington Ave. Mr. Sutton, who was employed at Charles Carling's livery, complained of a heavy cold Monday, but reported for work Tuesday morning. His condition became such shortly afterward that Mr. Carling had him removed to his home in a carriage. Dr. T. S. Dedrick, who was summoned, pronounced the complaint pleuri-pneumonia of the worst kind. Mr. Sutton died at 4:45 Thursday afternoon. He was born at Wiretown, near Hackettstown, and was the son of Joseph Sutton. On November 9 he was given a surprise party in honor of his sixty-third birthday anniversary. He was one of thirteen children and two of his brothers also served in the Union army during the Civil War. Mr. Sutton was a member of the Eleventh Regiment of New Jersey. Mr. Sutton was twice married. The first Mrs. Sutton was Miss Sarah Beam of Middle Valley, and the second wife was Miss Julia Trimmer. She was also a native of Middle Valley. Mr. Sutton is survived by the following brothers and sisters: John and Mathias of Iowa, William and Andrew of Hackettstown, Edward of Easton, Mrs. Margaret Lundy of Chatham, Mrs. Rachel Goerke of Danville and Lewis of Washington. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Dr. F. W. Johnson at his late home Sunday afternoon. The body was taken to Pleasant Grove and interred in the cemetery connected with the Presbyterian Church of which he was a member.
