Obituary
Clifford E. Sutton, 93, of Phillipsburg, NJ passed away on Tuesday March 22nd, 2011 in his home. Born: July 28, 1917 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a son of the late Frederick and Elizabeth Warman Sutton. Personal: A graduate of Phillipsburg High School in 1937, he then served in the Army as a combat veteran in World War II from 1941 to 1945, seeing action in Europe and, in particular, the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Sutton retired from the US Post Office in Phillipsburg in 1981 after 30 years as a Postal Clerk. He was an avid gardener and fisherman, and was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Memberships: Ss. Philip and James Catholic Church, Mecsey-Bishop American Legion #456 in Stewartsville, NJ. Survivors: He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia E. Schroeder Sutton; children Elizabeth Ann Flaherty and her husband, John of Durham, NC, John Clifford Sutton and his wife, Maureen of Holland Twp., NJ.; grandchildren John, Bethann and Thomas Flaherty, and Rebecca Sutton. Mr. Sutton was predeceased by his son, William F. Sutton, in 1962 and brothers, Robert, Harold and Richard Sutton. Services: Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Finegan Funeral Home, 302 Heckman St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Ss. Philip and James Catholic Church, 430 S. Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery in Greenwich Twp., NJ. Viewing hours will be held on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad, Prospect St., Phillipsburg, NJ
