Eltz - On Feb. 17, 1911, Jeremiah, husband of Carolina Eltz, aged 70 years. Relatives and friends, also the Veterans Employes' Ass'n of the Pennsylvania R.R. Co., of Philadelphia, the emplyes of the Park's shop of the Pensylvania R.R. are invited to attend funeral, on Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock from his late residence, 7522 Dicks ave., Clearview. Solemn high mass at St. Clements' Church, Paschalville at 10 o'clock. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.

General:
Jeremiah was drafted into the Union Army from German Twp., Adams Co., Pa. However, in Nov 1862, Isaac N. McClain substituted for him. (Ref: Civil War: Draft Substitutes List, Nov. 1862, Adam Co., PA, transcribed by Kathy Mummert Francis.) McClain died May 1863 in Hampton, Va. Jeremiah eventually was employed by the Quarter Master Department of US volunteers in Washington, DC where he was a carpenter. He apparently applied for a pension in 1890. 2747
