SUSSEX - Funeral services will be held tomorrow at two p.m. in the Presbyterian Church for George W. Sutton, long prominent in Sussex civic affairs, who died at his home Tuesday night after a long illness. He was seventy-four.
Mr. Sutton, who was born in Allamuchy, N.J., in 1866, had lived in Sussex sixty-five years. He was a former member of the Sussex Board of Education and the Sussex Borough Council. He retired three years ago from the confectionery business, which he had conducted on Main street. He had been active in the Fire Department for many years, and was a charter member of the Wallkill Hose Company, which he had helped organize February eleventh, 1896. He served as foreman in 1930, and as trustee from 1923-1930.
At the time of his death, Mr. Sutton was serving his second term as treasurer of the hose company. His first term had been from 1900 to 1904. His second begin in 1927. He was also a trustee of the Firemen's Relief, and of the Sussex Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Maggie J. Burns Sutton; a sister, Minerva, of Sussex; two brothers Hyram V. Sutton of Brooklyn, and James O. Sutton of Sussex.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. A. J. W. Mowatt. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.
Buried in Fairview Cemetery.
