Obituary
Annandale Man Run Down by Lehigh Valley Engine in Local Yard
Blinded by the storm and unable to distinguish an approaching locomotive, Joseph Garner Sutton, 60 years old, of Annandale, a crossing watchman in the employ of the Central Railroad Company of New Jersey, after quitting work shortly after 7 o'clock last night, was making his way through the local yards when he was struck by Lehigh Valley engine No. 246; Alex Morrison, of Milton avenue, South Side, Easton, engineer, and William Morrison, of South Fourth street, Easton, conductor. One leg was severed at the hip, and he died in a few minutes.
The Lehigh Valley engine and crew were engaged in shifting cars in the Central railroad yard when the accident happened and Mr. Sutton was walking in the direction of the Central passenger station to take a train for his home.
Deceased is survived by his wife, five children, William, George, Allen and Jacob Sutton, of Annandale, and Mrs. Leland Crate, of Livingston, Mont. A brother, R. R. Sutton, of Bound Brook, and two sisters, Mrs. Theodore Hill and Mrs. Elizabeth Kagon, of Gladstone, N.J., also survive him.
Mr. Sutton ws born at Fairmount, near Califon, and had been in the employ of the Central Company for 8 years, the greater part of that time as a mason foreman. He was a member of the Reformed Church at Annandale and the Odd Fellows at High Bridge.
