Amelia S. (Eltz) Melcher, 91, widow of James K. Melcher, died at her home in Bally yesterday after a brief illness.
Born in Washington township, Berks county, daughter of the late Magnus and Sarah (Shingler) Eltz, she had lived in Bally for more than 40 years. Her husband died 27 years ago.
Mrs. Melcher was a member of the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament, Bally, and its Altar and Rosary society.
Surviving are three daughters, Anna Melcher, at home; Marie, wife of Lawrence Fronheiser, Barto, and Agnes, wife of Claude Covely, Allentown, and two sons, August, Bally, and Edwin, Barto RD.
Also surviving are a sister, Emma, wife of George Eddinger, Allentown; 26 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held from her home Saturday morning at 8 o'clock. Solemn Requiem high mass will be celebrated in the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Mass will be sung by a grandson, the Rev. Francis Melcher, Washington, D.C., who recently was ordained to the priesthood. Interment will be made in the parish cemetery.
